Annual Wellness Visit Q & A

What are annual wellness visits?

Annual wellness visits at Living Water Community Health and Wellness Clinic, also known as Living Water Clinic, include medical evaluations that assess your health and whether you need screenings, routine medical monitoring, or treatments. Annual wellness visits support optimal overall health and a better quality of life. Living Water Clinic offers annual wellness visits for patients and their families, including work, sports, and school physicals.

How is a school or sports physical different from an annual wellness visit?

School and sports physicals typically include special evaluations requested by a school or sports director. At Living Water Clinic, Marilyn Perez performs comprehensive school and sports physicals that  may include:

  • Review of prior medical history
  • Physical head-to-toe exam
  • Height and weight evaluation
  • Neurological response (reflex) check
  • Vision and hearing evaluations

Oftentimes, school administrators or sports clubs require your physician to fill out specific paperwork as part of a school or sports physical. The team at Living Water Clinic has extensive experience in performing and processing the essential paperwork for these types of exams, so you can feel confident that your school or sports physical will be thorough.

What happens during annual wellness visits?

Annual wellness visits often consist of the following:

Vital signs check

Your primary care provider weighs you and checks your blood pressure, pulse, and additional vital signs.

Medical history review

The team also discusses your medical history. This includes your medications, dietary supplements, symptoms, lifestyle habits, and family medical history.

Medical exam

During a medical exam, your provider examines your eyes, ears, throat, and breathing. They also listen to your heartbeat and look for signs of possible diseases, illnesses, and injuries.

Health screening

Living Water Clinic also offers cholesterol, skin cancer, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, thyroid disorder, nutrient deficiency, and sexually transmitted disease (STD) screenings. You might undergo a blood test, urine test, biopsy, tissue swab, heart-function testing, or imaging procedures.

Treatment

If you need treatment for a medical issue or want preventive medicine, the Living Water Clinic can help. Medical providers offer vaccinations, nutrition and lifestyle health counseling, weight loss management, medication prescriptions, birth control, minor procedures, remote patient monitoring, and more.

Is an annual wellness visit the same as a women’s health exam?

At Living Water Clinic, Carolyn Diaz, FNP, MSN, RN, PHN, and Angelina Neria, MD, RD, MPH, provide annual wellness visits and women’s health exams separately as they have different goals.

A women’s health exam is a yearly visit that focuses on women’s unique health care needs. It reviews your sexual, reproductive, and hormonal health. These visits include specialty services like birth control management, cervical cancer screenings, and breast exams.
